2023年11月7日，花旗商业银行公众号发布《关于个别自媒体不实报道的声明》，明确花旗在全球范围对个人银行业务进行战略调整，包括将逐步关闭中国内地的个人银行业务。
花旗银行声称，该调整并不涉及企业与机构客户业务，花旗将继续坚定发展中国内地的企业与机构客户业务。目前花旗银行已针对不实报道进行投诉，要求平台删除不实言论，并表示对不实言论将依法保留追究法律责任的权利。2022年12月15日，花旗银行就曾宣布将在包括中国大陆、墨西哥等在内的共计14个市场退出个人银行业务。2023年10月9日，花旗银行宣布将其中国内地的个人银行财富管理业务，包括个人客户持有的账户、存款和相关理财产品出售给汇丰中国。
Citi to Gradually Close Consumer Banking Business in Mainland China
In a Statement Rejecting False Reports on Some Self-media released on November 7, 2023, Citigroup said that it is strategically adjusting its consumer banking operations globally, including the gradual discontinuation of its consumer banking business in the Chinese mainland.
The bank said that the adjustment does not affect its corporate and institutional client services, and Citi remains committed to the development of these sectors in the Chinese mainland. As for the false reports, it has demanded the platforms to delete the misleading statements, indicating it would reserve the right to pursue the legal responsibilities. Citi announced on December 15, 2022 that it would exit the consumer banking business from 14 markets including the Chinese mainland and Mexico. On October 9, 2023, the bank said that it had agreed to sell its China consumer wealth portfolio, including clients, assets under management and deposits, to HSBC.
