Tahota Successfully Held the Seminar on Win-Win Cooperation in Legal Practice between China and the United States

The seminar was hosted by the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee of the Hubei Provincial Lawyers Association and organized by Tahota (Wuhan) Law Firm. Over 100 guests attended the seminar, including all members of the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee of the Hubei Provincial Lawyers Association and fellow lawyers, to explore the future development direction and prospects of Sino-US legal business cooperation.
Xiang Dong, Director of the Lawyer Culture Construction Committee of the Hubei Provincial Lawyers Association and Vice Chairman of the Wuhan Lawyers Association, delivered the opening speech. In his speech, Lawyer Xiang Dong emphasized the crucial role of young lawyers in the development of a country and encouraged them to actively engage in international exchanges and strengthen cooperation with the international community. Furthermore, he suggested the adoption of excellent legal ideas and practical skills from abroad to enhance the status and influence of China’s foreign-related legal services on the international stage, jointly advancing the progress of global rule of law.
Lawyer Cheng Shaoming, a member of the American Bar Association and the Director of Tahota (Washington) Law Firm, discussed the challenges and opportunities brought by cooperation between Chinese and American lawyers by discussing practical cases such as the cases under Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, anti-dumping and anti-monopoly cases, cross-border litigation, and consular protection. He also offered suggestions and opinions on the path for lawyers in Hubei to expand foreign-related legal services.
Lawyer Feng Chao, senior partner and Director of the International Business Department at Tahota (Beijing) Law Firm, delved into the topic Developments in Sino-US Lawyer Cooperation and US-Related Intellectual Property Litigation. Lawyer Feng Chao provided an in-depth analysis of the cooperation between China and the United States in the field of intellectual property and its far-reaching impact on the development of Chinese law. Additionally, Lawyer Feng Chao provided detailed explanations, using practical cases, on the approaches to combatting trademark squatting and counterfeiting through the application of the Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China and the Anti-Unfair Competition Law of the People’s Republic of China, as well as the relationship between domain dispute resolution and tort action.
Lawyer Cheng Shaoming moderated the roundtable forum with the theme How Chinese and American Lawyers Can Achieve Win-win Results and Coexist in Business. During the discussion, members of the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee of the Hubei Provincial Lawyers Association (including Lawyers Bao Yuwen, Luo Chen and Wan Yunyun), Lawyer Chen Qing, Vice Director of the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee of the Wuhan Lawyers Association, and Lawyer Ding Wenxiu, a director of the Youth Commission of the Hubei Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as the legal systems of China and the United States, litigation procedures, judicial systems, and the potential for expanding foreign-related legal services.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Lawyer Wang Xiang, Director of the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee of the Hubei Provincial Lawyers Association, pointed out that the international political and economic situation has brought new opportunities and challenges for foreign-related legal services. Lawyer Wang Xiang emphasized that the Foreign-related Legal Services Committee will actively address the shortcomings in foreign-related legal services and cultivate a group of highly qualified foreign-related lawyers who are familiar with Chinese law, proficient in and adept at using international rules, and possess an international perspective, so as to assist more lawyers from Hubei in stepping onto the world stage and contributing their wisdom and strength to the high-quality development of Hubei Province’s open economy.
